As the population ages, the demand for care homes has increased significantly over the past few years. As a result, care homes receive numerous care enquiries every month, and the average number of care enquiries varies from region to region.
TrustedCare has analysed data from 500 services across the UK and over 30,000 care enquiries to find out what the average number of care enquiries per care home per month is. We have delved even deeper into the data to learn how the number of care enquiries per care home per month varies depending on the region.
The graph above shows that in the past 12 months, March and August had the highest volume of care enquires per home averaging 13 care enquiries. This could be due to an increase in people enquiring about respite care; August is one of the months when families typically book to go away on holiday. Furthermore, March is the end of the financial year for many families which could prompt them to review their finances and begin to consider care options for their relatives in need of additional support.
Contrary to this, December has the lowest average number of care enquiries per care home with 8 care enquiries. It goes without saying that Christmas is a contributing factor to the lower care enquiry volumes; December is often a busy and hectic time of the year for families across the UK and they may put off looking for a care home until the New Year.
The average number of care enquiries per care home per month in the UK varies significantly across different regions. According to our data, care homes in Greater London receive the highest volume of care enquiries per month with an average of 14 enquiries. This could be attributed to Greater London having the highest population density in the UK according to Statista leading to a greater demand for care homes. Additionally, London has a diverse population, and some cultural groups may have different attitudes towards care and may be more likely to seek care options. Finally, with the high cost of living in London, some families may need to consider care options for older relatives who cannot afford to live independently in the city.
Greater London is closely followed by the South East with an average of 12 care enquiries per home per month, the third most population-dense region which has a higher concentration of affluent communities who are more likely to seek private care options. The South East also has a higher average income than other regions which may mean that families have more financial resources to invest in care services.
The East Midlands comes in third place with 11 enquiries per month which could be attributed to the East Midlands having a growing economy and job market meaning that families have more financial resources to invest in care homes for their relatives.
In contrast, the North West and Scotland receive the lowest volume of enquiries per home per month, both averaging 6 enquiries. This is interesting because according to Statista, the North West is the second most populated area of the UK. Perhaps the lower volume of enquiries could be due to the availability of alternative care options such as home care, supported living and live-in care in the region. On the other hand, Scotland is the least densely populated which could explain why each home receives a lower number of care enquiries per month as opposed to the rest of the UK.
The data outlined in this article gives an overview of the average number of care enquiries per care home per month. However, there are a number of different factors that may affect the number of care enquiries received per home, including:
