In the highly competitive care home industry, having a strong online presence is crucial for attracting potential residents and their families. Good quality photography can play a significant role in showcasing your care home and the services you offer.
One of the primary reasons to invest in high-quality care home photography is to attract potential residents and their families.
When searching for care homes, families typically begin their search online. They are looking for a facility that feels welcoming, warm, and safe.
By providing professional images that showcase your care home's comfortable living spaces, amenities, and staff, you can differentiate your business and stand out from the competition.
Photography enables a care home to stand out from the crowd by being able to reflect your personality and values. This can be achieved by using real staff and residents interacting, doing activities together and all the elements that make your care home special.
Using original photography will always look more natural and unique; you would not want to have the same image library photos on your website as your competitors.
Bespoke images can also help to build a positive picture, trust and credibility with potential residents and their families.
When searching for care homes, families want to feel confident that they are making the right choice for their loved ones. By providing high-quality images that showcase your care home's facilities, staff and what you stand for, you can demonstrate your commitment to providing the best possible care.
Good-quality photography can also help to create emotional connections with potential residents and their families. People identify with real people which helps to build authenticity and trust.
When searching for a care home, families want to know that their loved ones will be in a caring and supportive environment. By providing images that show residents interacting with staff and enjoying activities, you can help to create a sense of community and warmth.
Good quality photography can also help to improve your search engine optimization (SEO). Search engines like Google favour websites with high-quality images, as they provide a better user experience.
By investing in professional images for your website, you can improve your website's rankings and make it more likely that potential residents and their families will find your business online.
Whatsmore, you will have a bank of images to use for a variety of marketing channels both online and offline which can help you increase visibility and occupancy.
High-quality images can quickly and effectively communicate information to prospective residents and their families, showing the breadth of what your care home has to offer.
Many people are naturally drawn to visuals and therefore they automatically navigate to images on a webpage before reading text. Having good quality imagery of your facilities, outdoor areas and staff will clearly show potential residents and their families your facilities, activities and the care homes' personality.
For us at RCH Care Homes, it is crucial that our photography is not only of a high professional standard but that it clearly illustrates the RCH Values, the types of care offered, the quality of the facilities and the lifestyle available; this could be our mealtime experiences, social engagement or our innovative technology and services. We want our images to tell a story to the care seeker, which enables them to envisage what life would be like for them or their loved one within a RCH Care Home.
Research shows that people are more likely to engage with online content that includes high-quality images. According to a study by MDG Advertising, content with relevant images gets 94% more views than content without images.
We have had a look at our own data to find out whether there is a difference in care enquiry volumes for care homes that have high-quality images vs poor-quality images on their websites.
The below graph is based on the average number of care enquiries received by care homes with good vs poor imagery over the past 6 months:
Our data demonstrates that care homes with high-quality photography receive a huge 133% more care enquiries than those with poor-quality imagery. This establishes the importance of care providers investing in photography.
We have spoken with Michaela Greene, a Healthcare Photographer with 30 years of experience in the photography industry. She has provided some insight into what a photoshoot day in a care home looks like:
There would be a pre-consultation meeting between the Photographer and the care home to discuss the brief, what activities are going to be shown, the main elements that the photography needs to show and who is going to be in it.
Other things that will be discussed are which lifestyle, interiors, exteriors and portrait images are required. Timings will also be discussed so that the photography does not totally disrupt the day-to-day operations of the care home.
On the day, if possible, someone who works at the care home will help with introducing the residents and carers who are happy to feature in the Photography. They will also help to establish the locations that will be used and the timings to when certain rooms will be available, to ensure that things run smoothly.
The day will be split up into activities and interaction type photos, interior and exterior photography and portraits if required. This depends on when people are available and when the rooms are free.
Tip: It is helpful if any spaces to be photographed have been cleared and dressed beforehand to ensure that your care home is captured at its best.
There will not be lights set up all over the place, just one Photographer with two cameras and one light.
During the day, it is important to capture all the elements that make the home special, but in a natural and relaxed manner. Ensuring that everyone who is taking part feels comfortable.
When it comes to delivering the images, Michaela works in two ways depending on the clients preferences.
She will either send the photos to the client to see which ones they like the best and then she will edit the selected images ready for use or she herself will choose the best images for use and send them to the client.
Either way, clients will be sent the photos in high and low resolution suitable for print and online use.
